The Municipality of Batad received a P7.9 million rice warehouse from the Iloilo provincial government as part of the latter’s commitment to bolster the agriculture sector.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led this afternoon’s turnover ceremony, alongside Mayor Elvira Alarcon and Provincial Agriculture’s Office acting head Grace Basco.
The facility will be managed by the Batad Multi-Purpose Cooperative. It can store up to 10,000 sacks of rice.
It also features a milling machine donated by the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech).
Basco said this is part of the provincial government’s support to the entire value chain.
“We do not just provide support during the production stage but we also assist in post-harvest,” Basco said.
The facility is located beside the Rice Processing System building funded by the Department of Agriculture under its Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).
