05 SEPTEMBER 2023 - Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. called for a joint emergency meeting with the Provincial Price Coordinating Council and the Provincial Economic Cluster to discuss Executive Order 39 issued by Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the imposition of mandated price ceilings on rice.
The governor consulted with the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Bureau of Customs on the roles and responsibilities of the LGUs in terms of monitoring and inspection of possible hoarding and unreasonable price increases within their jurisdiction.
Defensor will again convene the PPCC tomorrow, September 6, for the passage of a resolution on price monitoring and activation of the Local Price Control Committee in municipalities. Likewise, the governor will also meet with the rice traders regarding the implementation of the price cap.
Under EO 39, the price ceiling for regular milled rice is P41 per kilogram and P45 per kilogram for well-milled rice.
