MORE THAN THE AWARDS WE WANT CONCRETE RESULTS DEFENSOR

It’s raining awards for the Iloilo provincial government for the last quarter of 2024. These awards were presented to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. during the regular flag ceremony on November 11.

The province of Iloilo, through the Provincial Health Office, received the Most Outstanding Local Government Unit award in the 2024 Local Health Systems Awards of the Department of Health VI, signifying Iloilo’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of Ilonggos.

Iloilo was also among the Top 18 Finalists for the prestigious 2024 Galing Pook Awards. The recognition was conferred by Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to PHO chief Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon on October 25. The province’s entry "Puso para sa Puso: Movement for Healthy Hearts towards MoRProGRes Iloilo" involves the implementation of the World Health Organization’s Healthy Hearts Program which led to the reduction of risks against cardiovascular diseases through hypertension control.

The province of Iloilo was named the second Most Business-Friendly Province in the country with a special citation by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Inc. Iloilo was recognized for pushing for the “Agriculture is Business” approach towards agricultural development. This strategy is also seen to help the province achieve its annual rice production target of six metric tons per hectare.

Defensor stressed that beyond the awards, the provincial government wants concrete results for its programs towards uplifting the lives of the Ilonggos.

“Why do we go for the win? More than the trophy and the awards, it is the concrete results of the program where we can help in the most practical terms to our constituents,” Defensor said.

The governor also said that awards and recognition allow the province to improve its programs to provide more quality basic services to its constituents.

“That is why we want to win. That is why we are competitive. That is one sure way of improving. You cannot win them all but along the way, you make adjustments to become better next year,” Defensor said.

Defensor thanked the Capitol department heads and employees for working together in implementing the province’s programs and projects under his development mantra MoRProGRes ILOILO or Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally-Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo. (Capitol News)
