Provincial Administrator Raul Banias along with the members of the Iloilo Provincial Gender and Development-Technical Working Group (PGAD-TWG) turned over a check worth P300,000 to the municipality of Alimodian for being the champion of the 2024 Juana Awards. The cheque was received by Acting Municipal Treasurer Ms. Cecilia Paolo Felipe.
The Juana Awards started in March 2023 as an innovative and pioneering approach of the DILG Iloilo Province through its Iloilo Local Governance Resource Center (IPLGRC) to strengthen the compliance of the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Province of Iloilo to PCW-DILG-NEDA-DBM Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2013-01 and 2016-01 on the Guidelines on the Localization of Magna Carta of Women (MCW) and its amendments.
In its first year, the DILG Iloilo Province aimed to recognize the efforts of Local Government Units (LGUs) in institutionalizing mechanisms to implement the Magna Carta of Women such as Creation and/or Strengthening of the LGU GAD Focal Point System, Establishment and Maintenance of GAD Database, Gender and Development (GAD) Planning and Budgeting, Mainstreaming Gender Perspectives in Local Development Plans, and Formulation/ Enhancement and Implementation of LGU GAD Code.
In its second year, the Juana Awards has an additional set of new indicators in Compliance to GAD-Related Laws/ Issuances which are the Establishment of GAD Corner, Mechanism in Addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), GAD Budget Utilization and Best Practices/ Innovations.
Also, the DILG IPLGRC partnered with Iloilo Provincial Government (IPG) in implementing the 2024 Juana Awards.
