
The Iloilo Provincial Government awarded the winners in the Search for the Outstanding Barangay Tanods in a simple ceremony at the Governor’s Boardroom this morning.
Declared as champion in Category A (1st to 3rd Class Municipalities) was Barangay Balabag, Pavia. The First Runner-up is Barangay Cabugao Norte, Santa Barbara while Brgy. Imbang Pequeño, San Enrique bagged Second Runner-up.
For Category B (4th to 5th Class Municipalities) Brgy. Poblacion, Bingawan was declared Champion while Brgy. Talongonan, Passi City is First Runner-up in Category C (Component City).
Meanwhile, for Individual Category, Tanod Arturo Severo of Brgy. Pandan, Dingle was declared Champion with Mark John Lester Pudadera of Brgy. Poblacion North, Oton as First Runner-up and Ernesto Joridico of Brgy. Cabugao Norte, Santa Barbara as Second Runner-up.
The awardees received cash prizes and plaques of recognition.
Second District Board Member June Mondejar, author of Provincial Ordinance No. 2024-319 which established the Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Carmelo Orbista, and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) chief Valme Lujan distributed the cash incentives to the awardees.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. later joined the awardees for a photo opportunity.
He thanked the barangay tanods for their important role not only in maintaining peace and order in their barangay but also their assistance in the implementation of the programs and projects of the Iloilo provincial government.
Governor Defensor cited the barangay tanods’ role as frontliners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He emphasized that the Iloilo provincial government also recognizes the role of the barangay tanods in public safety, and disaster risk and management programs and vows to support programs for their welfare.
