FIRST BES BASA LIBRARY HUB OPENS IN ILOILO

A first-of-its-kind literacy facility in the province has opened at Leonora S. Salapantan National High School in San Miguel, marking another step in the Iloilo Provincial Government's efforts to improve learning outcomes among Ilonggo learners through its Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BESProbins).

"This is the first BES Basa Library Hub sang province anchored on the BESProbins and BES Basa program sang Iloilo Provincial Government," Public Schools District Supervisor Leonil Salvilla said during the provincial kickoff of Brigada Eskwela.

The Provincial Government allocated P1 million for the upgrading of the facility, which included the acquisition of information and communications technology (ICT) equipment, learning materials, and repairs and improvement works.

Provincial Education Management Office (PEMO) chief Maria Alfreda Fajardo and members of the Provincial Education Core Group (EDCORE) Iloilo, together with local DepEd officials personally inspected the facility.

Designed as a learning resource center, the library hub will not only serve learners of Leonora S. Salapantan National High School but will also be accessible to schools and communities throughout the district.

According to Salvilla, the initiative is expected to help address persistent literacy and numeracy challenges among learners.

"Hopefully ma-address ang literacy and numeracy problems not just here in San Miguel but sa bug-os nga probinsya sang Iloilo," he said.

The education official also underscored the significance of the Provincial Government's continued support to the education sector.

"Mabulig kita sa handum sang Provincial Government nga ma-improbar ang kalidad sang edukasyon," Salvilla added.

He likewise expressed the Department of Education's gratitude for the provincial government's sustained investments in schools and learning programs.

"Thankful gid ang DepEd nga ang tanan nga efforts sang Provincial Government are aligned with the reform agenda of DepEd," Salvilla said.

The opening of the BES Basa Library Hub coincided with Brigada Eskwela activities, the annual nationwide school maintenance and preparation program that mobilizes government agencies, private organizations, communities, and volunteers ahead of the opening of classes.

For Iloilo Province, the project forms part of broader initiatives aimed at strengthening foundational literacy, expanding access to learning resources, and creating more conducive learning environments for students across the province.
