Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. led the ceremonial turnover of workbooks to primary school students during the flag ceremony at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol earlier today.
The workbooks, distributed under the province’s Proof of Concept (POC) initiative on the devolution of basic education, aim to strengthen the reading proficiency of primary school learners across the province.
With the support of Synergeia, the Department of Education (DepEd), EDCOM II, and the Regional Education Council, Iloilo has taken a pioneering role in implementing this project, which is part of Governor Defensor’s broader Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) program.
Governor Defensor emphasized the innovative nature of the POC initiative, which allows the province to experiment with new education strategies while empowering local government units to play a vital role in the process.
“We are positioning Iloilo at the forefront of education innovation,” the governor said, expressing confidence in the collaboration between local leaders and educators.
The workbooks were distributed to students from pilot municipalities, including Pavia, Mina, Batad, Guimbal, Cabatuan, Igbaras, Leganes, Lemery, Maasin, Sara, and Barotac Viejo.
The learners, who attended the flag ceremony, expressed their gratitude for the new materials, which they hope will enhance their reading skills.
