Local officials, education leaders, and development partners gathered in Estancia to chart a new course for quality education during the opening of the municipality's 2026 Education Summit, highlighting reforms aimed at improving literacy, numeracy, and learning outcomes among students.
Public Schools District Supervisor Dr. Mae S. Duran underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, describing the summit as a platform to strengthen partnerships that will benefit both learners and educators.
Mayor Ma. Angelica Bianca Requinto-Espinosa outlined key education initiatives under her “Paglaum Naton” agenda, including the installation of solar-powered facilities in schools, a P2.7-million education fund, educational assistance programs, and intensified literacy and numeracy campaigns.
The mayor also cited plans to support working students, expand inclusive education programs, and establish a Youth Hub, emphasizing that every child should have access to quality education.
Representing the provincial government, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias assured continued support for the municipality’s education initiatives, including assistance for school infrastructure projects, the release of the local government’s share from the Special Education Fund, and the provision of learning materials.
Banias stressed that while government programs are important, the commitment and dedication of teachers remain critical in delivering quality education.
The summit also featured panel discussions that culminated in the formulation of the Municipal Education Action Plan, which will serve as the municipality’s roadmap for improving educational outcomes.
Mr. Edwin Nacionales, Synergeia Foundation, Inc. focal person and summit facilitator, said the action plan will focus on strengthening literacy, enhancing numeracy, and promoting values formation among learners.
He emphasized the need for effective leadership, efficiency, accountability, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the municipality’s education goals.
Requinto-Espinosa expressed optimism that the summit would help transform Estancia into a center of quality education in northern Iloilo, rallying stakeholders to work together in translating plans into concrete results for learners and communities.
The summit forms part of the municipality’s efforts to build a more responsive and inclusive education system that equips students with the skills and values needed for future success.
