The 125th Semana sang bloomed into action with a vibrant showcase of the bougainvillea plants of the five congressional districts during the kickoff parade.
All participating floats were decorated with 80% bougainvillea plants, promoting Iloilo’s flourishing floral industry.
The bougainvillea festival aims to boost local horticulture and eco-tourism anchored on Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.s tourism program, "Fun, Foodie, Friendly sa Kabanawahanan for MoRProGRes.”
The governor said that while countries like South Korea and Japan boost cherry blossom as their primary tourist attraction, Iloilo should also appreciate and invest in its own - the bougainvillea.
He said the parade is a good start for the province of Iloilo to recognize and promote its local floral attraction.
