BATAD COMMUNITY STRENGTHENS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AMID LANDSLIDE THREAT

With the discovery of a mountain crack posing a significant landslide risk, the beneficiaries of the Purok Resilience Program (PRP) in Brgy. Nangka, Batad, Iloilo, participated in a Disaster Preparedness and Risk Awareness training on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Conducted in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology - Iloilo Provincial Science and Technology Office, the activity served as an eye-opener for participants as they learned about various hazards that could impact their lives and livelihoods in the event of a disaster. The discussions focused on landslides and flooding that equip PRP beneficiaries with essential knowledge on how to respond and adapt to changing climate patterns in their locality.

The activity marks the beginning of a series of technical interventions that aims to enhance disaster resilience in the area.

Future initiatives will include evacuation planning, the installation of early warning systems, the use of indigenous materials for alerts, and the implementation of nature-based adaptation strategies.
