The pioneering environmental practices of Iloilo’s municipalities were recognized at the Green Guardian Awards organized by community newspaper Daily Guardian.
The Green Guardian Awards honors excellence and innovation among local government units (LGUs) that are driving sustainable development through community-led environmental initiatives.
The awarding ceremony took place during the Daily Guardian’s 25th Anniversary Celebration on April 29, 2026 at the Iloilo Convention Center.
Here are the winners:

🏆LGU-Led Ecological Stewardship Award - MUNICIPALITY OF BATAD
*Special Citation - MUNICIPALITY OF CABATUAN
🏆Circular Economy and Waste Management Excellence Award - MUNICIPALITY OF AJUY
*Special Citation - MUNICIPALITY OF DUMANGAS
🏆Green Infrastructure and Climate Action Award - MUNICIPALITY OF MIAGAO
*Special Citation - MUNICIPALITY OF LAMBUNAO
Meanwhile, the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) was also recognized as a key partner of the Daily Guardian for the Green Guardian Awards.
Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Dennis Ventilacion and PGENRO Supervising Environmental Management Specialist Mitzi Peñaflorida accepted the distinction on behalf of the province.
