PASSI CITY BARANGAY LEADERS COMMIT TO ADVANCE WASTE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES

The barangay councils in Passi City vowed to improve waste management during a series of orientations on circular economy principles.

More than 100 elected barangay officials, sectoral leaders, and community volunteers from six pilot barangays joined local dialogues to map existing waste disposal and collection methods, discuss the role of informal waste pickers, and co-design inclusive solid waste management strategies for their barangays.

The dialogues feed directly into the digital Solid Waste Management Information System (SWMIS) being co-developed for Passi City.

The pilot barangays (Punong, Agdayao, Batu, Man-it, Aglalana, and Bayan) represent the first phase of a 15-barangay rollout, implemented with technical assistance from Central Philippine University, drawing on its experience with Project Agubay’s plastic waste tracking work.

This initiative is part of the PH Plastics Circularity Project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Philippines with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation, and in partnership with the Local Government of Passi and the Iloilo Provincial Government.
