A TALK WITH THE HISTORIAN

Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. confers with noted Ilonggo historian former Vice Governor and Board Member Demy Sonza about his plan to make the Casa Real into a Museum of Political History of Iloilo.

Casa Real, formerly the seat of the Iloilo provincial government, was believed to have been constructed in 1869 and was formally recognized by the National Historical Institute (National Historical Commission of the Philippines) as a historical landmark on April 11, 2010.

In 2022, the National Museum of the Phillippines declared Casa Real de Iloilo, together with the Arroyo Fountain in front, as an Important Cultural Property.

Presently, the rehabilitated Casa Real is home to the regional office of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6, the Provincial Library and Archives Office, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (LEDIP) Center, Maintenance Division and functions rooms at the second floor used for various public and private activities.
