Gov. Toto Defensor called for a meeting with the Civil Defense Cluster to discuss urgent matters such as the continued rise in dengue cases, updates on African Swine Fever, and preparation for the rainy season.
Recognizing the need for a rapid response on dengue cases, Defensor said the provincial government is focusing on the efficient case management, particularly on ensuring the availability of test kits and IV fluids in health facilities, and hospital beds.
The governor also ordered an extensive cleanup drive to control mosquito spread and an intensified information campaign on disease prevention.
The Provincial Health Office reported a 77 percent surge in dengue cases in Iloilo this year compared to 2024. A total of 1,742 with 9 deaths were recorded as of May 17, higher than the 983 including 3 deaths during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Veterinary Office said Iloilo showed an increase in swine inventory by 11.42 percent or equivalent to 8,256 heads. The ASF Task Force regularly conducts surveillance in all LGUs as well as in ports and airports.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also presented the emergency preparedness and response capabilities of the province.
Defensor will convene the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on Friday, May 30, to amplify the disease and disaster preparedness measures of the provincial government.
