A total of 2,407 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease were recorded in the province of Iloilo from January 1 to February 25, 2023.

The Provincial Health Office Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit said the numbers are 2,214 per cent higher compared to the 104 cases during the same period last year.

The majority of the patients are children 1 to 10 years old.

The top 5 municipalities with the highest number of cases are Santa Barbara (350); Alimodian (141); Leon (127); Calinog (126); and Badiangan (120).

Provincial Health Officer I Dr Rodney Labis said the PHO is partnering with local government units and concerned agencies for the prevention and control of dengue and HFMD.

“Our current interventions focus mainly on health promotion to increase the awareness of the community for the prevention and early detection, and effective disease surveillance for the timely and appropriate response by our health offices,” Labis said.
