Over 1,300 residents of Barangay Puente Bunglas in the municipality of Ajuy now have access to a modern Multi-Purpose Hall designed as a barangay hall and an emergency evacuation center as well.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. spearheaded the inauguration of the P4.1 million facility, today, September 10, 2026.
Funded through the Iloilo provincial government’s National Tax Allotment, this project reflects the Defensor administration’s continued drive to boost grassroots facilities to better serve the Ilonggos.
Mayor Loida Espinosa said the multi-purpose hall is very helpful, considering that Barangay Puente Bunglas acts as the catchment basin of Northern Iloilo. The facility will not only serve as an administrative building but will also cater to residents during heavy flooding.
“Gabaha gid na diri pirmi kun nagaulan. Ti subong may ari na diri nga dalaganan ang mga pumuluyo kun may baha,” Mayor Espinosa said.
The modern structure also replaced the old barangay hall, which was situated in an inaccessible and overcrowded area. It is located along the highway, which is strategic as Barangay Puente Bunglas sits on the boundary between the municipality of Ajuy and the municipality of Concepcion.
Governor Defensor stressed that quality infrastructure is essential for effective local governance. He said that a good facility would allow local officials to serve their constituents better.
The governor also assured the community of continued support and upcoming projects from the provincial government.
