The Iloilo Provincial Government through its Gender and Development GADIloilo Unit conducted a two-day workshop for members of the Provincial GAD Council technical working group and hospital and department GAD focal persons.
The workshop was to guide participants in formulating the provincial GAD Agenda and to mainstream it in all of the development goals of the province.
A GAD Agenda is the official, long-term strategic framework that guides a local government unit in making all its plans, programs, budgets, and services gender-responsive. It is a mandatory requirement under the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710) and Joint Memorandum Circular 2016-01 of PCW-DILG-DBM-NEDA.
The workshops were facilitated by Ms. Lorena Yunque of the Philippine Commission for Women (PCW) and Ms. Rosario Panganiban of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The activity taught participants the process of formulating GAD agenda with several workshops including drafting GAD visions, mission, and goals, and strategic plans.
Acting PPDO chief Jigger Labergue emphasized the importance of the training in ensuring GAD is mainstreamed in the province's governance systems.
The PCW recertified the Province of Iloilo as a Gender and Development Local Learning Hub (GAD LLH) for the period 2023-2026. Iloilo is among the pioneering five local government units nationwide to receive the GAD LLH distinction in 2015-2018 and was previously recertified in 2018-2020 for its sustained partnership with municipalities, particularly through initiatives on Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE).
