Philippine Football Federation (PFF) officials led by President John Gutierrez and FIFA Council Member and former PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr., who is an Ilonggo, visited Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
PFF is proposing that Iloilo Province become the host of group stage matches for the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup in November 2025.
Governor Defensor assured full support to Gutierrez and vowed to extend full assistance to the said endeavour.
A FIFA technical team will arrive soon to inspect the proposed venues and assess their readiness. The recommendation of the technical team will be crucial in determining if the province can secure its spot as a host.
Gutierrez and Araneta were joined by Iloilo provincial government sports consultant Pablito Araneta, former PFF Treasurer and Grassroots Development Head Bonnie Ladrido, PFF Futsal Head Kevin Goco and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
