Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. congratulated the Iloilo delegates for emerging as champions in the recently-concluded 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet held at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City.
The governor particularly thanked the athletes, parents, municipalities, Department of Education staff, and the personnel of the Iloilo provincial government for bringing pride to the city and province.
He further thanked everyone’s cooperation especially during the implementation of the province’s varsity programs and development leagues which aim to strengthen the delegation and prepare them for the WVRAA.
“It’s not only the winning but our gains in the area of sports. What is important is the values formation of our athletes. Because if we win here, indi lang na ang medalya. It’s really the values formation that we want to happen when we play sports,” Defensor said.
Defensor assured the delegates that the provincial government will continue to provide incentives to those who won medals at the WVRAA.
“We will implement our incentives…We will do our best to make it fast,” he said.
Under Provincial Ordinance 2000-217, athletes who took home medals in the WVRAA Meet are entitled to cash incentives of P5,000 for gold medalists, P3,000 for silver medalists; and P2,000 for bronze medalists. Coaches and chaperons are also entitled to receive incentives.
